news Retraining of Racehorses announces Adele Mulrennan and Kevin Blake as ambassadors

9th January 2026

Friday 9 January

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), British horseracing’s charity for the welfare of horses when they retire from racing, is delighted to announce the appointment of Adele Mulrennan and Kevin Blake as official ambassadors.

Both Adele and Kevin bring a strong combination of professional experience, credibility within the racing industry, and a long-standing commitment to equine welfare and aftercare. Their appointments mark an important step in strengthening RoR’s advocacy, profile and engagement across racing and wider equestrian audiences.

As ambassadors, Adele and Kevin will support RoR by helping to champion the charity’s work, raising awareness of the importance of responsible aftercare, and representing RoR across media, digital platforms and events. By agreement, they will also be available as RoR spokespeople, providing informed commentary on aftercare, welfare and life after racing.

The ambassador roles are designed to complement the role of the charity’s patron, Zara Tindall MBE, by extending RoR’s voice through respected figures within racing.

David Catlow, Managing Director of Retraining of Racehorses, said: “Adele and Kevin were a very natural choice for us. Both bring deep industry experience, a genuine passion for aftercare, and a strong understanding of the responsibility we all share for horses when they leave racing.

“They also have significant reach and gravitas within the sport, and we know they will use their platforms thoughtfully and credibly to help us tell the RoR story, challenge misconceptions about aftercare, and highlight the positive outcomes that are possible with the right support for former racehorses.”

Kevin Blake said: “It is an honour to be asked to become an ambassador for Retraining of Racehorses. What happens to horses after they finish racing is, and will remain, the most important question our industry must answer if it is to retain its social licence.

“RoR leads from the front in ensuring that the industry’s actions allow that question to be answered with ever-greater confidence. I look forward to working with RoR to help shine a light on its work, and on the many people across racing who do the right thing by our wonderful Thoroughbreds at every stage of their lives.”

Adele Mulrennan said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be asked to become an ambassador for Retraining of Racehorses, a charity and cause I hold very close to my heart.

“I have a huge amount of respect not only for RoR, and its hard work and dedication to supporting the welfare of former racehorses, but also for the people who give their time, care and love by rehoming racehorses and giving them a life beyond the track.

“I can’t wait to bring my own passion and commitment to help fulfil this important cause in any way I can. What a year to start, in the Year of the Horse.”

RoR works across welfare, education and competition to ensure that all horses bred to race are supported throughout their lives, while promoting responsible ownership and the versatility of Thoroughbreds. The charity supports thousands of horses and owners each year through its programmes, advice and community.

The appointment of Adele Mulrennan and Kevin Blake reflects RoR’s ongoing commitment to working with respected voices who share its values and can help advocate for high standards of aftercare across the sport.

About Adele Mulrennan

Adele Mulrennan is a former flat jockey whose biggest success in the saddle came with victory in the Scottish Sprint Cup at York aboard Masta Plasta, a horse she later retrained into dressage. Keen to channel her passion for horses and racing into a second career, Adele moved into broadcasting as a raceday presenter for Go Racing in Yorkshire, before joining the ITV Racing team as a pundit and presenter, covering many of the sport’s major festivals. She continues to ride out in her spare time for trainer Karl Burke and is also a director of the Professional Jockeys Association.

About Kevin Blake

Kevin Blake is perhaps best known as an analyst on ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing, but he is also a passionate participant on the coalface of the industry having enjoyed success at stakes level as both a breeder and owner. He has been a prominent and passionate public advocate for horse racing in the mainstream media when it has come under intense negative scrutiny such as during the protests at the Grand National and the Derby in 2023. Kevin raised over €10,000 for Retraining of Racehorses when running a half marathon in August 2025.
