Education as prevention: Independent review highlights RoR's impact
Earlier this year, the Horserace Betting Levy Board commissioned Benesys, an independent impact consultancy, to undertake a review of RoR’s education programme.
We are very pleased to share the report, which provides strong external validation of the quality, reach and impact of this important area of our work.
At RoR, we are incredibly proud of our education programme. By helping owners and professionals better understand, manage and retrain former racehorses, the programme supports successful transitions into life after racing, strengthens the bond between horse and owner, and builds knowledge, confidence and community.
The report highlights that, in 2025, RoR delivered 264 educational events, with 2,808 participants attending educational activity, a 68% increase on the previous year. It also found that 91% of new RoR members joined specifically for educational support, demonstrating the clear demand for practical, Thoroughbred-specific guidance.
The findings reinforce a principle at the heart of RoR’s work: education is prevention.
Our thanks to HBLB for its continued support, and to Benesys for capturing so clearly the impact this programme is having for horses, owners and the wider sport.
