news RoR publishes findings of 2026 membership survey

30th June 2026

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) has published the findings of its 2026 membership survey, providing valuable insight into the experiences and priorities of former racehorse owners across Great Britain.

The survey was sent to 15,740 members, with 1,160 completing it and providing RoR with a strong evidence base to guide future planning and decision-making.

The findings were encouraging, with 89.1% of respondents saying they were satisfied or very satisfied with RoR, and 84.4% saying they were likely or very likely to recommend the charity to another former racehorse owner.

Members most commonly described RoR as informative, helpful, useful, relevant and caring, and highlighted the importance of its work across education, welfare, competitions and community.

The research also identified opportunities to strengthen RoR’s work, including improving regional accessibility, increasing awareness of its welfare safety net, supporting non-competing owners and making information easier to find.

The findings will help shape RoR’s future education, welfare, regional and communications activity. They will also inform the charity’s major digital redevelopment project, which will strengthen registration and improve the visibility and traceability of former racehorses by making it easier for owners to register their horses, keep information up to date and access relevant information, events and support.

RoR thanked everyone who completed the survey and said members’ feedback would continue to play an important role in improving the member experience and strengthening support for former racehorses throughout their lives after racing.
