RoR South West & Top Spec - Introduction to Owning a Former Racehorse Day with Jo Davis Racing, SN6 7PP
New to life with a former racehorse? Thinking of taking one on? Already own one but want to get more involved with the RoR community?
These engaging and practical days are designed to support and guide you through the different stages of owning and retraining former racehorses. Whether you're just starting your journey, facing challenges with a recent arrival or just want to connect with other thoroughbred enthusiasts, this event will leave you better informed, more confident, and supported by a like-minded community.
Jo Davis is a racehorse trainer, based in Wiltshire. Jo’s love of horses started at an early age (it is said that she could ride before she could walk!) and while still at school, she successfully competed at show jumping and eventing.
During Jo's more than 25 years in the industry, she has never stopped learning about the different needs of horses. She firmly believes that every horse is an individual and the trainer's job is to find out what it takes to get the best out of that horse. Training must always begin with ensuring a horse is healthy, well looked-after, and enjoys its work.
Equine welfare really is at the forefront of Jo’s work, and this extends to after horses finish their racing careers. Jo is well known for educating all her horses about how to carry themselves and a rider correctly, and in a balanced way, which then translates to a smoother transition into a second career. She then will take time to prepare horses leaving racing for their new pathway, and makes every effort to match the horse to the right owner.
This is a fabulous chance to see behind the scenes at a high-welfare racing yard, but also see how a racehorse trainer prepares horses for a second career.
