Training RoR South West & Altano Vets Insight Day with Owen Burrows Racing, RG17 7AQ

16th July, 2026

Kindly supported by Altano Vets, RoR is delighted to provide a unique opportunity to have a guided tour around Owen Burrows’ racing yard in Lambourn, Berkshire, followed by a presentation all about welfare and retraining.
Have you ever wondered how former racehorses live during their racing career? A Racing Insight Day is your opportunity to find out.
Racing Insight Days are unique opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of the life of a racehorse, from training to retirement and how they can then transition into a second career. These events provide a great chance to learn about routine, feeding, training and much more, while a horse is on a racing yard.

About Owen Burrows: Head Lad to David Nicholson for 12 years & ran Martin Pipe’s 2nd yard for about 5 years.  He rode for 7 seasons as a conditional jockey, having over 500 rides and more than 40 winners. He says 'thankfully it looks like I’m a better trainer than I was a jockey'!

He was assistant trainer for Sean Woods in Newmarket, then was very lucky to join Sir Michael Stoute, as assistant for 12 seasons and worked with some of the best thoroughbreds on the planet.  Whilst there, Sir Michael had 3 Derby winners, an Arc De Triomphe winner, Breeders Cup winners and many other Group 1 winners (too many to mention!!).

Owen then met Sheikh Hamdan and built up a good working relationship with Angus Gold and Richard Hills over the years. When Sheikh Hamdan was looking for a private trainer...the rest as they say is history!  Moving to Lambourn at the beginning of 2015 where Owen had a year under the tuition of the legend, Barry Hills, with the plan to start training in 2016.  Owen has now held a trainers licence for 8+ years, over 200 winners, including over 25 at Group level and 6 Listed races.

The day willl start at 10am for the yard visit and gallops tour.  To conclude the visit, a specialist racehorse veterinary officer from Baker McVeigh Lambourn will meet us to discuss associated veterinary matters typical to racehorses and how best to correct problems.

After the yard visit at approx. 12.30 pm we take a short 5 minute drive to a nearby hall in the centre of Lambourn:
