Whether you own a former racehorse or are thinking about having one this is a fantastic opportunity to have an insight to what to expect when do or gain more knowledge to help you on your already started journey.

We will talk all about those initial steps, what to feed , routines , etc . All to help you with that journey with your Former Racehorse.

New Beginnings Horses.

Our journey started with just a few acres and a few horses but our passion for thoroughbreds, determination and tenacity has helped us grow into an established retraining and rehoming centre, the only one of its kind in the North East, with over 30 horses in our care at any one time and a reputation that we are proud of.

Since our inception the priority for New Beginnings has been, and always will be, the welfare of our horses and those horses that are looking for a safe and secure home.

To be one of the ten centres we had to meets certain key criteria and pass an on-site inspection by the RoR Welfare Consultant and an official from the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). To become a RoR Accredited Rehoming Centre, we signed up to the RoR’s Code of Practice and agree the terms for the funding of horses within the Vulnerable Horse Scheme. Our premises was also subject to inspection.

The accreditation procedure included the involvement of an independent, third party, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). The BHA provided experienced officials, veterinary officers or stable inspectors, to assist the RoR Welfare Consultant in conducting inspections of the premises.

We bring in horses straight from racing or more often from private post racing homes where for whatever reason the owner can no longer look after them. At New Beginnings we also assist the RoR (Retraining of Racehorses) through their ‘Vulnerable Horse Scheme’ to provide care, compassion and stability for the most vulnerable former racehorses that need that extra help and understanding.

At New Beginnings we never sell our horses, but once they are ready to be re-homed, we look for forever loan homes. This enables us to guarantee security for the rest of the horse’s natural life. We offer a safe and secure ‘Life Past the Post’.
