RoR South West - Christmas Ride on Salisbury Plain escorted by the Bourne Valley Riding Club
Salisbury Plain is one of Great Britain’s best-known open spaces, consisting of a plateau like area covering about 300 square miles (775 square km). The largely treeless downland is drained to the south by the River Avon and its tributaries, is developed upon chalk. Its northern edge is defined by an escarpment overlooking the Vale of Pewsey. The area was settled in early times and abounds in prehistoric monuments, of which the best known is Stonehenge. A large part of the plain is used for military exercises and hence you will be escorted at all times and will follow bridle-ways and bi-ways. This will be a 2-2.5 hour ride, departing at 1030. Festive refreshments will be provided on return to the lorry park.
We are very grateful to the organising committee of Bourne Valley Riding Club and to Larkhill Racecourse.
