Heath Hunter - 'the horse that saved me'
Heath Hunter, now known a Heath retired from racing in 2017 and soon after Tracey Knight was lucky to acquire him from racehorse trainer David Pipe. Tracey rode Heath two days after he arrived and the pair instantly became best friends and rode everywhere together including trips to the beach.
In November 2017, Tracey’s life changed when a dog ran out from behind a bush on her blind side, resulting in her falling. The impact of this left Tracey unable to walk, after waiting for the ambulance and being seen at the hospital the verdict was life changing. Tracey was told she would never walk properly again.
After some time, Tracey managed to get around on crutches and her mobility scooter. Unable to walk and believing she couldn’t look after herself led to her feeling depressed. She decided to go and see her best friend, Heath. To her surprised he had other ideas and followed her scooter back and from the field with his head on her shoulder. From then on Heath gave Tracey the strength and motivation to keep going.
In 2020, Tracey joined the RDA where she learnt to ride using just one leg. Due to lockdown she had to stop attending and took it upon herself to climb aboard Heath. He stood rock said says Tracey and the rest is history.
