We hear from racing syndicate Old Gold Racing on why it supports RoR through sponsorship of OGR racehorses
Who or what is Old Gold Racing?
Established in 2019, Old Gold Racing offers affordable shares in racehorses (starting at £54 each) trained by some of the UK’s top trainers. We have a Grade 1 winner and Cheltenham Festival runner with Apple Away, our second horse, Darling Maltaix, broke the course record at Stratford and Flat horse, RacingBreaks Ryder, won four on the bounce last year.
We also run syndicates for other companies, including Fitzdares, The Mick Fitzgerald Racing Club and – most recently – the Jeremy Clarkson owned brewery, Hawkstone.
Old Gold Racing focuses on delivering the best customer experience possible and, as a result, over 99% of online reviewers rate us 5*. Owners get weekly updates on their horses, and access to their very own app, competitions, ballots for owners’ badges, owner-only events, and access to a fun racing community.
Why is it important for Old Gold Racing to support racehorses post-racing?
Our syndicate horses’ post-racing career is very important both to us and the racehorse owners that make up our community. We’ve therefore always ensured that retired racehorses go to a good home where we can keep tabs on their onward progress. As far as we’re concerned, it’s an ethical imperative for any racehorse owner or syndicate manager to put these kinds of provisions in place. Horseracing wouldn’t exist without racehorses, so we feel it’s the least we owe them.
Why did you pick RoR as your charity partner?
RoR make the aforementioned provisions easy – they’re an essential player in ensuring that these wonderful animals are well looked after, so we naturally wanted to support them. We do this by arranging a charitable payment to RoR who then use an agreed proportion to sponsor an OGR racehorse, meaning that their logo is displayed loud and proud on the horse's sheet whenever the horse is in the pre-parade ring.
Which of your horses are sponsored by RoR?
Quite a few! Big City Roller, Sovereign Star, Stroll On By, Kenmya, Apple Away, Kingston James, Henry Box Brown.
Coming soon - John Barbour, SwingingOnTheSteel, DancingOnTheEdge, Jersey Rocs, Oh Darling, Running The Game, Killybegs Jet Lady and FlightOfThePhoenix.
And there’ll be more before the year is out…
Do you have a message for other syndicates considering something similar?
Only that we hope they agree with the above and get involved!
